We are not even two weeks past the 2017 Royal Rumble event and we already have another WWE PPV fast approaching in the form of Elimination Chamber. This will be the first time since 2015 the coveted chamber will appear on WWE television and the first time since 2014 it will have been utilised on the Road to Wrestlemania. Excitement follows the tantalising matchup wherever it turns up in the WWE year and this year is no different and promises to be one of the best ever with a plethora of intriguing possibilities awaiting, as well as a fantastic mix of talent in the field bound to create magic within the steel structure.
On February 12th John Cena, AJ Styles, The Miz, Bray Wyatt, Baron Corbin and Dean Ambrose will go to war for the WWE Championship and to book a date with Randy Orton in the ‘main event’ of Wrestlemania 33. With such high stakes, WWE can ill afford 50/50 booking or poor booking in general on Smackdown Lives’ last PPV stop on the Road to Wrestlemania, not only do WWE need to be strong and true to their decisions but they must mix an intricate blend of risk and logic in order to develop storylines of such a calibre that the audience can fully invest in leading to Wrestlemania with minimal backlash.
On that note, while taking into consideration current backstage plans, the best possible scenario’s and the most interesting matchups and underlying storylines that could develop here is how WWE should book the Elimination Chamber Match with focus being on the matches namesake, eliminations.
The Exclamation Point
One of, if not the best feud in the weird and wonderful world of the past year has been John Cena and AJ Styles. With three outstanding contests, with each somehow improving on the last in magnificent fashion, the rivalry was put on hold following a beautiful match at the 2017 Royal Rumble 2 weeks ago with Cena claiming his 16th world championship from the best professional wrestler in the world today. With that said the two are bound to clash until one of the fantastic performers hangs up their boots, so there is no reason why Styles and Cena’s bad blood should be put on the back burner come Elimination Chamber this Sunday.
The two men could create the best 5 minutes of wrestling of the night if they were given the starting positions of the match, while the other 4 men stand in their pods waiting to pounce the audience could watch on in complete awe at the undeniable chemistry of two of WWE’s biggest stars. As well as that 5 minutes of action, there is no pairing in the matchup who could start the match off and create an unbelievable buzz among the audience, in which they forget – good or bad – the matches before the chamber and invest wholeheartedly in the action unfolding before them. On Sunday the potential is there for 6 of WWE’s elite to create the greatest Elimination Chamber match of all time and the ‘Face That Runs the Place’ and the former ‘Champ Who Runs the Camp’ will be integral parts of this. A dramatic face-off following a 5 minute sprint of glorious action would tie up this fantastic rivalry in a beautiful little bow while the Road to Wrestlemania rolls on and the two men take time apart from their legendary rivalry.
Whether it be a feat of mat wrestling, a contest of athleticism or a knock-down-drag-out slobber knocker the crowd and those watching at home will be hooked for the rest of the night with a phenomenal foundation for which the 6 men can continue to build when the third man enters and the ferocity of the chamber is unleashed.
